The train departs Salt Lake City on Wednesday July 17 at 3:30 a.m.—with stops in Provo, Helper, Green River, and Grand Junction—and arrives in Glenwood Springs at 12:10 p.m. that same day. Roaring Fork Valley Transit runs every half hour and only charges $7 a trip (bring exact change). Bus stop is a block-and-a-half from the Glenwood Springs station. Walk up the steps to 7th Street and you’ll see an overpass to your right; walk under it to Colorado Avenue. On the corner look for the RFTA sign and the Aspen/SMV bus at 12:40 p.m. It’s an hour-and-a-half to Snowmass with one transfer. Return via the 11:45 a.m. bus from Snowmass with one transfer; arrives in Glenwood Springs at 1:08 p.m. for your 1:53 p.m. train. http://rfta.com/
There’s also a Planes, Trains & Automobiles option: Catch a United 8:52 a.m. plane, transferring in Denver, and arriving in Aspen at 11:40 a.m. ($442; half price of roundtrip). Alternatively, depart at 1:24 p.m. and arrive at 5:01 p.m. Most Snowmass hotels have shuttle services and courtesy phones at the airport (7 miles); also High Mountain Taxi ($36 on meter), 970-925-8294. You can schedule an automobile to take you to your train on Saturday or Sunday (see above). The best option for getting to Glenwood Springs is for guests of the Westin/Wildwood ($80 for up to six people); schedule with concierge, 970-923-8200.
